In my understanding they are kind of related, you can use them in certain
escenarios to accomplish the same result however not always.
For example in an sparse mode situation both command would accomplish the
filtering of certain groups either by applying the multicast boundary and
this way denying the sending of the multicast feed, or by denying the join
group. This because for sparse you would need a join message before sending
the multicast feed out certain interfaces.
However, in a dense situation you would use the multicast boundary since if
you use the join group it would still be sending the traffic out the
interface because it sends traffic out interfaces until it gets a prune
message.
