RFC's rock.
People do think you are crazy if they find you reading them. I used to keep
quiet about it ;)

My peers at work thought I was "crazy" for reading relevant RFC's for my
studies. They didn't think it was too crazy after I passed the test :-)

Reading the RFCs is actually very beneficial. Tedious yes, but helpful

Check out how many responses from myself, Bob, the Brians or many others
contain quotes from RFCs. It's really not just because we are truly bored
individuals who love reading those things. :)

You do not need to read the rfc's but if you have a question regarding a
cretin technology it is best to go to the source (like you check routing
you
do a recursive search to the source) it would not heart to get a glance
and
see if the thing you where looking for is in there or not.
as for the topic of this question the rfc 1918 is not very long and
mostly
informative but if you search for something specific like 127.0.0.1 or
127.0.0 you will not find it there and even if you do not want to read
the
rfc it tells you that it is not included in that rfc.
so simple search some time you will find in the rfc more help then you
would
expect when it come to understanding a technology.
