My, my...different opinions abound on this topic. Are they wrong? Are they
right?
For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of taking the lab before now,
let me tell that the answer to all "best way to do this" questions is IT
DEPENDS where the lab is concerned. The truth is there is no best way.
There is only the Cisco way depending on what the lab requirements are. If
you deviate from that, even though you think your way works better, you will
miss those points. No question.
Now in a real-world scenario the answer can also depend. If you only have a
single connection between the two hosts then is link stability really an
issue? If my only "outside" (ie public) interface goes down then do I care
about the address availability that a loopback might provide? Why not use
the physical interface in this situation? As in the lab, life is full of
choices and they may all be right...or they may all be wrong. The answer as
always is, it depends.
Rik

Hi, all
This is not 2 cents worth!!
Use a loopback interface as it is the most reliable interface in your
network for tunnel source/destination.
