If you use a deny statement in your ACL for the "group-list" that will make the the RP not advertise itself for that group in question. This will in turn force that group to use dense mode instead if no other RP advertises that group. I always try to think of it like a negative announcement, hence the reason for the -. There was some papers from Cisco FTP. ftp://ftpeng.cisco.com/ipmulticast/config-notes/rp-announce-filter.txt

For a while there was a mail on this but I am not able to find it, although I searched for it a while.

When I make a SH IP PIM RP MAPPING command, what does the output starting with followings mean:

(-) 224.0.0.0/4 .......... ........ .......

What is the meaning of that (-) at start?

I appreciate any help on this.

Thanks, Oez
