I have never used an alias, not on a CCIE lab exam and surely not at a
client site. You should definitely be able to pass your lab exam without
using aliases.

I believe aliases can be useful in the lab if you do not type fast. It's
even more useful if you use them consistently in your practice labs,
this
way, it becomes second nature when taking the lab. The Proctor may ask
you
to remove them at the end of the lab.
Using aliases can also give a sense of preparedness before the lab, at
least
you know what useful show or debug commands you intend to use during
the
lab. The exam could be stressful, anything that will give you a little
psychological edge should be used. It should not be a debate as to
whether
you use them in production or not.
