Commitment and dedication is key. Make a study schedule and stick to it.
If you have a lot of other commitments (i.e. family, work, etc) try to
make your schedule as flexible as possible. Also reward yourself with a
little time off to spend with the family if you are staying on your
schedule. It's nice to have an evening where you don't have to spend 4
hours on the rack and 2 more hours reading ;-) If you have a family it'll
make it easier if they are aware of your schedule.
Spend as much time at work preparing if possible. Example: The last
month before your lab don't spend an hour eating lunch with your
co-workers, bring your own lunch and eat it at your desk while reading CCO
or watching a CoD. This alone can add roughly 5 more hours a week to your
study time.
Lastly remember that the CCIE is an investment in your time and money (lab
fee, travel, books, classes, etc). The money can sometimes come from
other sources (employer, credit card, etc) but the time must always come
from you.
