I use both as that's what I found lying around at work. A 3640 with 128/32
can run 12.4 easilly, as I'm limited to 128/24 :( I manage by using IP plus
12.4(8c) which just fits and does support OSPFv3 (IPv6 routing).
The 256Mb in a 2600 you'll only ever need if you're expecting large routing
tables which is definetely not the case when prepping for the lab. The 48Mb
flash is nice though as you'll ba able to run Adv Ent Services although Adv
IP services will do nicely as well imho. You might be able to fit two Adv IP
serv images on 48Mb which makes it quicker/easier to verify bugs.
I like the 3640 due to the 4 NM slots which gives a lot of flexibility, next
to that I find my 3640's boot a lot faster than my 2611XM...
