Mihai,
To add to your post, there is a good paper comparing the two protocols:
http://geocities.com/mnvbhatia/draft-bhatia-manral-diff-isis-ospf-00.txt
Oddly enough, I was out hiking with Radia Perlman yesterday and we were
discussing that very topic - the comeback of ISIS.
Her views mirrored what you wrote of the protocol - easy to configure/manage
and very flexible/scalable.

Subject: Re: OT routing protocol for internal network
Because I have an ISP background, I know only two alternatives for a very
large network: OSPF and IS-IS. In my opinion, both are equivalent in terms
of scalability. Obviously, OSPF is more familiar to most network engineers
and this is the big plus. However, IS-IS is my favourite because it is
easier to configure (you do not need areas even in large deployments), it is
harder to spoof or attack, and I found better tricks to tweak convergence
(like the exponential back-off - which was first available for IS-IS).
Of course, you may found comprehensive comparisons on the Internet.
Best regards,
