The use of hsrp over glb:
HSRP is always deterministic, which is important when you have asymetric
routing. HSRP allows for object tracking, SSO, it is also supported on
multiple technologies (BVI,FIDDI, Broken RIng etc). GLB is tied to
802.3 only. as well as other options. Seems there is more development
with HSRP.
1) The real difference between the two is the GLBs ability to load share
between routers (automatically) as well as automatic configuration.
We would prefer to manually load balance the vlans and gateways vs have
glb do this.
Check out the feature roadmap for the FHRP and it will help with seeing
the differences.
The above is the major reasons why people stick with hsrp vs glb, vrrp.
Unless you have a very specific need for this protocol.
Good to know about it if you need it.
