You need to remember that as a 1099, you aren't getting any benefits. So
your target needs to include for you, what you want to make PLUS what
benefits you want to give yourself like insurance and stuff like that.
Don't sell yourself short. I had a guy earlier who told me he had a good
job for me in LA at $80k a year for a CCIE and I laughed at him.
Just because someone says that's their rates doesn't mean they won't pay
more.

I am finding $85-90/hour 6 months projects in LA area. But I am hearing
$120-150 ISPs are paying for CCIEs.
I am sure those high rates are very hard to get for 1099 CCIEs alone, since
we do not have marketing guys going around.
I am just learning this new situation so thanks for your inputs.

1099 rates for CCIEs can be anywhere from $50/hour to $450/hour. I'm not
kidding. It really depends on the position/project that the CCIE is being
asked to do / as well as the additional background requirements of the CCIE.
There are a LOT of factors that come into play when you talk about
salary/hourly rates, etc. Location of the assignment has an impact.
Somewhere in NYC where the cost of living is high would probably have a
higher compensation level vs. Dallas where the cost of living is lower. Lots
of variables here. Give us more information on the situation.
