I'm very sorry to hear that you failed. Know it happens to all of us at one
time or another! but the important thing is what happens next?!?!
The hard part after going through a lab is to reconstruct things. It's
certainly good to do this as soon afterwards as possible before too much
leaks out of your head! But the hard part is because it's all about what do
you recollect?
The reason that's hard is simply the word 'recollect'. Which means what
does your brain remember or think it saw. Now, that gets to what often
happens in the lab. What we think we see (and configure/react to) may not
be what was actually there.
I have seen many very seasoned engineers go in and insist they had a
perfectly working configuration and yet still fail. Just like in the
consulting world... You may have a great design, or a perfect network...
But if it is not what was asked for, then it simply isn't correct.
I know that's not a very encouraging thought. And I don't know many details
of your preparation or experience level beyond what I've seen here on GS, so
please don't take this as any sort of insult! Interpretation of things very
often kills our points. Whether it's over-solving an issue, or noticing
that something looks "like" a practice lab we'd been doing time and time
again, we can miss what was being asked and do what we THINK was being asked
without paying attention to the rest.
Coming out of the exam, you certainly know which things you simply did not
get in the lab. So you should be well aware of the "definite" lost points.
That's certainly your areas of study for next time. But the harder part to
think through is that score report. That tells you points THEY think you
didn't get. So somewhere the disconnect is between what you thought was
being asked and therefore configured and tested (correctly too!), and the
part they felt they were really asking for and thus grading you on.
As you go through your recollection of the pieces of the lab and compare
them to your score report. Try very hard to keep an open mind and
re-interpret what you remember. Think about it from a "ok, assume I really
did miss this, what could they have really asked for that would have made my
answer incorrect?" point of view. This will help your interpretation skills
and force you to think about answer in different directions as you go
through the lab next time.
Certainly ask LOTS and LOTS of questions of the proctor to iron out ANY
potential grey area, or area of misinterpretation. Those kinds of exercises
will make a huge difference for the next time you take the lab exam.
I wish you the best in your preparation going forward, and certainly look
forward to hearing about your progress and success the next time!

Subject: Failed at first attempt

OK guys it was really hard for me to write this email, tried to write this
yesterday night when I got the result but was really shocked at that
time, when I walked out of RTP I was damn sure that I made it,I had finished
my BGP till my lunch time and finished my lab at ard 1:30 pm and after that
I did verfication and everything went fine for me and when at exact Midnite
12.00 I got the email with subject "Your Score Report" and I opened and saw
that I failed,I was really shocked at that time and after that when I saw my
Score Report I got more shocked and so much shocked that I never have been
before and was so disappointed.I mean I got 0% in QOS and I simply cant
accpet that,I had given the answeres correctly and verified it by sendind
traffic and also fulfilled their constraints they had put inparticular
question,I really cant belive that I dint got points for even a single
question in QOS!!! In hotel room yesterday and today I recalled the
questions and wrote the solutions on piece paper and recalled what I had
configured in lab and it was correct and I also had done v ertification,I
had 2 hours to verify my stuff so I verified my stuff inside out,and most
shocking thing was getting 0% in QOS and secondly I got like less percentage
and I am not getting where I lost the points in IGP also,I really dont know
where I missed the points in IGP,again i recalled the questions and wrote
solution verified with DocCD,Books,IE stuff and my solutions were correct
according to me and i had verified those in labs,I dont have any alternate
way to verify my questions with anyone coz it would be againts NDA and in
that way I am not getting that where the hell I made mistake?! Really
believe me guys I have searched and recalled inside out the questions I
remeber from lab and verified in books and everywhere that I could I cant
find that where I made mistake,I really feel helpless right now,I dont know
what to do,but I know one thing that I WONT GIVE UP until ,as Darby says I
get "d-i-g-i-t-i-z-e-d" :) ,I dont think Re-Read is good idea because I am
not like 4-5 points away from passing but far from passing score,so that
option is eliminated, even i though of Re-evaluation and discussed with
friends and they said the same thing that you can do re-evaluation if you
are missing 3-4 points or something,I dont know how they graded my lab
man,ran some scripts and sent me the reuslt of script?! I dont wanna blame
anyone but you guys can think how I am feeling right now, because i really
cant figure out my mistakes after getting my score report, but then also wont
leave in middle, wont stop till I get my number(but still it hurts) and the
other thing is I have spent much money i really cant afford to do rack
rentals and I want to try Dynamips, can anyone tell me that does Dynamips
totally supports the 4 Switches, coz my others friends told me that the it
works fine for router but not for switches, many commands doesnt works like
"show vlan brief" and stuff,I dont want to switch to other vendor, but is it
good idea? I dont know what to do,as I heard(I also believe, but correct me
if I am wrong, that switching to other vendor does not make you get better
result but its all about technology) and if I want to switch to other vendor
then also i cant because I cant afford it,I was so sure(from my side, buts
its fate, lol) that I would this lab and I can pay my debt fter getting good
job in India or any country,i came all over from India and gave exam
here, now I am not in position to give exam outside India because of huge
expense on flights, hotel, local transportaion and stuff,so instead of looking
date in RTP,San Jose in USA,I am looking date in bangalore but no date is
coming over there right now,but I wont give up till i get the date, just
waiting to dates to show up/waiting for cisco to release the date or if
someone drops it,looking for date in July,I think 2 months are ok for me to
do stuff, but what stuff? What I should study, how should I start? I did IEWB
3 timse and COD and stuff, its not like I mugged up solution and things but I
really understood the technology.Should do the IEWB again? Even its hard but
I can arrange money for my next attempt, only by converting my debt on credit
cards(for money i spendt for Hotel in USA and for CCIE Lab payment) into
installments and stuff,so I have financial burden and above that I am middle
of nowhere, dont know how to start with and where I am weak, its really hard
for me,so guys pleae give me some suggestions,I would really appreciate
date, and sorry Darby for not replying your email last night,i was really
shocked and dint had the courage of replying your email.
Gobind
(Waiting to be d-i-g-i-t-i-z-e-d)
P.S. Sorry to steal your proprietry word Darby,"d-i-g-i-t-i-z-e-d",hope you
dont mind,LOL
