If the router model number is 18XX you will have odd problems like this ;-)
I've personally had to reload a few of them to remove various commands.
As far as your problem goes can you shutdown the interface, swap the ends of
the cable (DTE), and then do a "no shutdown"? The router should reject the
command if the end is DTE.
