Hello Everyone,
I passed the lab yesterday at RTP on my second attempt! I'd like to
thank
everyone that participates on this list as I've learned so much from you

all! Especially all the very patient vendors on here that give so much
free
advice.

As I've read other people's success stories over the past 6 months on
GS,
what I was most interested in was what they did and what they studied to

prepare. I'd like to share what I did to get ready.

I first got CCNA in December 2000. I finally obtained CCNP
certification
in May 2005. I passed the written exam in July 2006. I used the two
"routing TCP/IP" books (which I think are essential prep material) along

with the Cisco CCIE exam cert guide to prepare for the written. After
passing the written I took both Global Knowledge's CCIE Bootcamp
courses. I
learned alot from them. The best thing about it is you get your own
rack
for a whole week, including the weekend. The classes are mostly labs
and
you are forced to use the Doc cd to finish the labs. I think that
helped me
alot as I went forward with my preparation. After those classes, I
purchased Internetwork Expert CoD along with the R&S lab workbook. The
Brians are awesome instructors and cleared up everything I wasn't sure
about. I did some lab work the past few months but not a whole lot.
I'm
very comfortable with the IOS and have been usiing it daily for over 7
years
so I didn't need so much practice as much as theory. Coming up to the
lab
date I mostly studied the Internetwork expert labs, studied the doc cd
inside out, and listened to classes that I thought I needed.

Two things that got me over the hump I believe:

First: the doc cd - I think everyone going into the lab should have the
12.4
IOS and Catalyst 3560 docs memorized before going in. Not every word,
but
where every thing is for quick reference. It means so much!

Second: Show commands - I thought I passed when I left my first attempt
in
February. Turned out I did not pass ofcourse. So going into my second
attempt I studied alot of show commands, ones that I didn't even know
existed sometimes! I wanted to read each question again after I
answered it
and ask myslef what show commands cisco would use to verify the config.
It
helped me tremendously I think!

So thanks again everyone and the best of luch witk your quests!!
