In basic theory, your diagram looks workable. Are you sure on the
router-ids?
Check "show ip ospf" on your routers to see their RID value.
Also, does R4 see R3 (and vice-versa) within area 3? Check "show ip ospf
database router" to see if the RID of the other device is listed. This will
establish your basic adjacency.
If R1 is an ABR, then something in your diagram is not right. R3 and R4
appear to be the ABRs here.

Subject: OSPF Virtual links - through multple routers:
Hi All:
I have a question on virtual links:
Say I have the following:
------------R4----------R1----------R3----------R2
----AREA_2--X--AREA_3----X--AREA_3---X--AREA_0---
I can get a tunnel in this senerio to work fine. However, I am having a
problem getting a virtual link between
R4->R3
Seems R3 does not like the virtual link coming from and thinks there is a
ospf area missmatch.
the basics:
R4:
area 3 virtual-link 190.10.3.3
R3:
area 3 virtual-link 190.10.4.4
I am getting errors about vitual-link miss matches. Do I not use the RID in
this case? OR do I need to create a VL between R3-R1, R1-R4?
So - how do I create a vitual link between two router (R4->viaR1->R3) with
a ABR in the middle?
What am i missing?
Thanks.
