Oh god - that brings back some nightmares and some odd ball configs to get those
unix boxes to work right... Don't for get that a lot of boxes (Unix and vendors)
ping the default gateway or destination device. Having icmp filters will cause
some good problems and troubleshooting. You sit and wonder "Why is the gateway
for this box disappearing????" Then you run a trace and figure out that the box
is pinging the default gateway AND you deny ICMP inbound on all router! Ahh -
good old unix!!! Live by the prompt, die by the prompt...

You forgot RIP. RIP is on by default on all those Unix and Sun boxes.

It depends actually, if you've turned on the "ROUTED" daemon on sun/linux boxes,
RIP will start advertising/receiving any subnets.
