You should verify the question specific to the exam and make sure the
solution works exactly per the requirement in the task.

If it says "make sure if PPP link goes down that it will route over the
ethernet link", then yes you should shut down that PPP link in order to
properly test the scenario and requirement given.

Any place that says the network should stay up in the event of a frame or
link failure you should definitely shut that interface down, to properly
test. There may have been something you missed at first glance that once
you shut that interface down the routes get caught in a loop or something
else happens. You will only see this if you really test it.

Verification and testing is a huge part of the exam. You have to make sure
it is right, and not just assume it is. Attention to detail is what gets a
lot of people. Before the exam I passed, I spent nothing but 2-3 weeks on
testing and verification.
