I haven't seen this one, but it sounds familiar to the problems we have
seen with BGP with password through the Pix. The fix on this one is to
add a few extra lines.
Have you tried turning off any relevant inspect statements? Does a
capture show you anything?
Off topic, but out of curiosity, are you hitting the bug that causes a
reload when you type a Q in a pager limited command?
