I personally Run the routers on my PC and connect them to real switches.
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 with 2GB DDR2 Ram
That runs the IEWB topology just fine, but If I use the 2 switches (which
are not real switches they are Cisco 3640's running the NM-16ESW modules)
However its slows up towards the end, as both CPU's near 100% with full BGP
etc,
I cant tolerate the slowness (years of doing remote work over sat links used
to drive me nuts waiting for the key press to show up!!)
So I have R1-4 and BB1 on the PC above
R5-6 on an AMD FX-53 with 2GB Ram
BB2 and BB3 are real routers
4 X Real switches
I have added ZYNX cards to my pc with give 4 x 10/100
With a Full lab the CPUs only hit about 40% and runs like a dream
For the virtual routers I use the Cisco 3725, I have heard that the 3640
runs faster but with my setup it runs without a glitch.
If you google for Hacki forum, it's a whole forum dedicated to this topic. I
would suggest you do some reading into it, as during my dynamips building I
hit a few brick walls
Ps its nice to only hear a few routers and switches in my ear now rather
than a mammoth rack of them :)
