Can someone actually give a definition of the lab rat? Yes we know that
they wear propeller heads, but is this getting into a conversation about
those who just specialize in taking the exams vs. "real" network people.
Yes, you can have a whole job requirement, but job titles are completely
relative and different everywhere. Being certified demonstrates your
discipline and in case of a lab certification how well you know the
technologies and can set them up. Is certification something that makes
you qualified for any kind of network job? Absolutely not, but at least
it is a demonstration that you can figure it out and they don't have to
ask you a question on how OSPF works on the interview. Also most people
including me are going towards their CCIE, to move on from the world of
figuring "how to do it" to "what to do" and CCIE is kind of step to
demonstrate that you can go there. And when you are in the second
category, you do need to know ho to spell DHCP, but at this point you've
earned your right not to remember something that most of the world
doesn't do anyway.

b/c they spend the time to fully engage the material and test EVERYTHING
out. It is not as much that they keep the value. It is that they
actually know the stuff and not just holding a number.
Your second question doesn't even make sense so my answer is YES... u
get both those things

How in heck does a lab rat keep the value of the CCIE?
So do you get a propeller hat and a pocket protector when you pass?
