I had a meeting at Cisco yesterday and they discussed it. It will run
all the same software images that the current 3560 and 3750 will.

Thanks,
Steve

Subject: Cisco Compact 3560 - no fans! Silence at last...

Evening GroupStudy,

not seen any mention of the press release from Cisco yesterday regarding
the
launch of the 3560 Compact Switch

http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2007/prod_013107.html?CMP=ILC-001

-Cisco Catalyst 3560-8PC: 8 Ethernet 10/100 ports with PoE and 1
dual-purpose
10/100/1000 and SFP port; compact form factor with no fan.

just wondered if anybody has worked out if these are adequate as IE lab
kit and
will they run IP Services (old style EMI) or only IP base (old style
SMI)
images?

on the product data sheet at
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5528/products_data_she
et09186a
00801f3d7d.html
it says:

- IP Base license (formerly SMI) installed
- Basic RIP and static routing, upgradable to full dynamic IP routing

which is what it says for all the other 3560 models so it sounds
promising :)

i've not checked on CCO price list but theregister.co.uk quotes them as
costing
$1395 (#711). When the prices tumble in future years, these would have
just
enough ports for a nice tidy lab :)

cheers, Neil
