Re: vtp client-server communication quirky, config version

For example if you have two switches A and B.
Both are in vtp transparent. It will have vtp revision 0.
Now you planned to convert A as VTP server and B as VTP client.
SO you are creating vlans in A before converting to VTP server.
Now ehn you convert A as VTP server and B as VTP client, you can see show vtp status on both switches, you will have vtp revision 0.
And you will not get your vlans from A to B.

I think this is the problem you are seeing.

what you can do is after you convert into server and client, just create any new vlan in A (VTP server) , exit and delete that vlan. It will increase the revision number to 2 and you can see the VLANs propagated to switch B.

Please check and let me know.

  Thanks,

  Anees.

every time I start fresh (no vlan.dat) on both switches, create/delete vlans works perfectly.

But if I rebuild network, client doesn't follow the sever.

Is it possible if the client's config version number is larger than server's config version number, client simply ignores updates ?
