RE: ip multicast

You will need to use 224.0.1.39 and 224.0.1.40 for Auto-RP, either use ip
pim sparse with ip pim autorp listener or you can use sparse-dense-mode, but
if it is stub host even ip pim sparse in enough as it can pick the multicast
packets from the segment.

The reason why you need ip pim sparse-dense is due to the fact that Auto-RP
announce and discovery groups (224.0.1.39 and 224.0.1.40) use dense mode in
all conditions.

Hope this clears!

Regards
Ali

It depends of where you need to configure the mapping agent.

If your mapping agent is configured on the RP you can use sparse-mode. In
case you need to configure the mapping agent in another router you need to
configure sparse-dense mode because you will need to use the 224.0.0.40. (or
.39, I`m not sure now...)

I`m not able to explain deeper than this now...

Please someone confirm for me... :-)
