Visit your doctor soon and act on his/her advice - this is a must

I have a colleague who suffers with the same symptoms which you describe and
he does some exercises from time to time, I join in with him as best
practice. I would say try doing some weights twice a week. All you need is
20-30min sessions. Try it - you have nothing to lose. In fact if you have
some free weights there no need to even sacrifice precious labtime for going
to the gym.

Do some gentle strengthening exercises concentrating on both wrists,
forearms and upper arms i.e. biceps & triceps. Perhaps finish with light
shoulder exercise, back and abdominals. Over few weeks build up the muscle
strength slowly slowly (Not like Arnie Swartz). Grip strength is key and
stretch your wrists. How? position both hands in front of you with arms bent
| palms facing downwards. Using one of your hands grip the other hand above
the knuckles, keeping the hand your griping as flat as possible. Slowly bend
the hand you're holding such that the wrist begins to point away from your
body. Hold for 20 secs and release. Repeat on other hand. If you feel severe
pain or discomfort stop and try to find a more comfortable point that suits
you. Don't give up - eventually you'll find the right position that works
for you.

It's a good way to cure your symptoms but also to avoid any recurrence.
Give it a go...what's more important than your health or hands!, and
remember go visit our doctor without much further delay.

Hth,

Ajaz Nawaz

I ran into the EXACT same issue.

Not being one to visit the doctor much - I self diagnosed myself with
Carpal Tunnel and bought two braces (one for each hand and wrist).

I found these braces QUICKLY cured the pain. In fact - I only needed to
wear them while I slept each night after studying.

The pain has never returned now that the CCIE has been achieved and my
long stressful typing sessions have been reduced.

Here is a link to the type of braces that I bought (I went to a local
Walgreens.)

Hi Charles,
it could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I'd suggest you to go to see a
doctor, if not cured can become chronic.

Subject: my wrists giving me issues,
just before the exam time

Sorry for a not directly related topic with the
studies but last six months
I have been heavily doing typing and doing lot of
labs.
I did realize some pain on my wrists last month. Now, more pain and
numbness
on the fingers.
My exam is in 19 days now, so this issue is stressing
me out more now.

Did any of you guys have the same type of issue?

I even
bought wrist bag and mouse bag, it helped little bit but not that
much.
I
bought a new keyboard, put it on different angles while i type, that
helped
little bit more, but not that much either.
So, let me know if you have any
suggestions on this issue.
I am very curious to know if anybody else out there
have the same issue or
not.

Thanks.
