Press F6 at the main screen once it boots, replace the persistent option
with acpi=off and hit Enter. I had to use this to get it to boot for me.
Works fine afterwards. This is mentioned on his website at the bottom of the
Live CD instructions.
This is a fine work Paul has done. With a few more enhancements, this CD
would replace my router rack that I study the IE with.
