That would be true. Separate domains weren't mentioned, just areas. But
depending on the circumstances of the lab (again, I don't have this lab set,
so I have no earthly idea on the wording) that would seem like a viable
option as well!

You ALWAYS must have an area 0 in order to properly exchange LSAs for OSPF
information. So someplace along the way, you need to create an area 0.
Virtual links do belong to area 0. Although there have been mixed results
in "just" creating a virtual link to make things work (see the Archives for
extended discussions on this).
But area 0 is needed. I don't know anything more about the topology, so for
specific help, consult their tech support forums. But from a technology
standpoint, that's the answer! :)
