OSPF demand circuit isn't limited to DDR and you could still see
it in the lab today. In the real world OSPF demand circuit is commonly
used for DDR (i.e. ISDN) and OSPF flood reduction is commonly used on
dedicated connections. But the CCIE lab isn't about real world
configurations ;-)
Here is a comparison of the two features:
OSPF demand circuit:
Suppresses the periodic hellos
Suppresses the refreshing of the OSPF database every 30 minutes
OSPF flood reduction:
Suppresses the refreshing of the OSPF database every 30 minutes
As you can see both features are very similar but the OSPF
demand circuit feature adds the suppression of the hellos.
