        If you are in VTP client mode and you issue the "switchport
access vlan" command at the interface it will not automatically create
the VLAN for you. Also if you create an SVI (i.e. via the "interface
vlan X" command) it will not automatically create the VLAN. Other than
this you can just use the "switchport access vlan" command on a VTP
server or transparent switch and it will create the VLAN at the time of
assignment. In the lab for 100% accuracy I would recommend just looking
at the diagram and then issuing the "vlan 10,20,30,40..." command in
global config to ensure that the VLANs are always active before
assignment.
