Hi,

R5--->SW1---->BB3

on BB3 NTP Stratum is 4

BB3#sh ntp status
Clock is synchronized, stratum 4, reference is 127.127.7.1

on SW1 after giving ntp server BB3's IP

Rack1SW1#sh ntp status
Clock is synchronized, stratum 5, reference is 204.12.1.254

Correct, but on R5, after giving ntp server BB3's IP

Rack1R5#sh ntp associations

address ref clock st when poll reach delay
offset disp
*~148.1.57.7 204.12.1.254 5 31 64 377 6.5
-1.34 0.5
 ~204.12.1.254 127.127.7.1 16 934 1024 0 7.8 -0.48
16000.

It shows the stratum of BB3 16, and of SW1 5, Can any one explain why
startum of BB3 is jumping from 5 to 16 when it reaches to R5, when its
supossed to be 5?

and thats why R5 is getting time from SW1 rather than BB3...

Rack1R5#sh ntp status
Clock is synchronized, stratum 6, reference is 148.1.57.7

Regards,

Mohammad Zahid Saeed
