Still working on my cert. but I found that the 2600/3600 are great
because the WIC load modules are relatively cheap and you can move them
around from router to router for different lab scenarios.
Ebay is a great place for bargain hunting and place to start (search for
CCIE)

A couple switches (3560s if you can afford them), 7-8 routers (maybe a
couple of the XM flavors), a frame-switch of some sort (2522 or 2523
work
great), and a terminal server (2511 works well). It really depends on
what
type of budget you have in terms of the equipment you'll purchase. Pick
a
budget, and work your equipment around that.
