Hi Pandi,
 in my understanding:

 ip helper-address <address>

is used to convert *received* broadcast packets for particular UDP ports into unicast/subnet broadcast packets and then route them accordingly. The BOOTP ports belongs to the list of supported UDP ports by default.

 The

 ip dhcp-server <address>

command is used when the router itself has to send a dhcp request to the DHCP server.

Subject: difference between these two commands (Ip helper-address & Ip dhcp-server ),
Hi
I just need to understand the usage of these two commands (Ip
helper-address & Ip dhcp-server ), if i need to forward dhcp request
I need to forward the LAN segment dhcp request to the DHCP-server in
different segment
Which option is most suitable?
1) Int fas 0/0
Ip helper-address 10.1.1.1
Or
2) At the global config
Ip dhcp-server 10.1.1.1
or do we need to configure both.
Pleased advice me. Thanks
Regards.
Pandi
