No way - no need for that caution anymore! Thank goodness.
The reason is that 802.1w no longer relies upon timers to control
convergence. 802.1w relies upon a Proposal/Agreement process that is
much more efficient - and - FAST.
Please note that in order for 802.1w to be effective and scalable - you
need full-duplex connectivity between your switches. No big deal of
course - and is probably what you were doing under 802.1d anyway.

Subject: maximum diameter for 802.1w (RSTP) switched network
Hi everyone,
in 802.1d STP domain using, the IEEE recommendation is to consider a
maximum diameter of seven bridges for the default STP timers.
for 802.1w STP domain, does the maximum diameter of seven
bridges/switch still applies?
Thanks a lot for any enlightenment
Best regards,
SekChye
