Dampening again!

Hi group,

I am having some trouble with interface dampening and do not actually agree/understand the solution given in the workbook which is:

int f0/0
 dampening 30

Objective: Assuming we want to remove an interface which flaps 3 times in 30 sec from the routing table and allow the router to bring it in service.

I have discussed this with another two friends also studying for their CCIE and our opinions vary, so here it is.

My view is that all dampening values should stay in the defaults with the exception of the Half Life and Suppress Value which should be increased to 30 (not 100% sure about this) & 3000 respectively.

something like

int f0/0
 dampening 30 1000 3000 20

Note:

dampening <half-life 1-30 sec> <re-use value 1-20000> <Suppress 1-20000> <max duration to suppress 1-255>

Half-life - default 5
Reuse - default 1000
Suppress - default 2000
Max ST - default 20

What is your view?

Thanks
Elias
