I've setup Dot1Q trunks on 1721 routers as well but I seem to recall that
the 1720s didn't support them.

Take a look at the model of this router you are displaying information.
Is it a 2500 router? Probably not.
I do not know of any 2500's with a FastEthernet interface.
The statement that 2500's do not support VLAN tagging is in fact 100% true.
VLAN tagging was supported on Ethernet interfaces as of 12.2 on the 2600
platform and above.
