Patching Capability and subsystem restart is the key take away from IOS
Modularity .
In the Current Scenario : - You will see following improvements .
1) With non-modular IOS ,even for a small bug fix . You need to do full
image upgrade . i.e copy the new image on to flash , bring down the router
and then reboot with the new image .With new scheme of things ,you can get
away with this . You can just do the patching with out need to re-start the
whole of IOS ( only affected subsystem needs re-start ) .
2) Also IOS will not crash every time an exception occurs . With new
scheme of things affected subsystems could be restarted ( Just like
stopping and re-starting Windows NT service )
Of course IPV6 MPLS are such a giants that we can least afford to ignore .
But support is planned soon . We will soon have them in our cat boxes .
Thanks and Regards
Arun
