I believe what they are giving you in their solution guide is based on the
show outputs. I dont own a copy of that so can't be certain about it.
Generally it is a best practise to make sure the member interfaces can trunk
without any issue individually before you go any further with creating a
port-channel.
Try out the following to clear your doubts
1. Make sure your trunking works first
2. Create a portchannel and check the Po interface if it inherits the same
configuration you configured previously on its member interfaces and
technically it should.
3. Now change the encapsulation type on the Po interface and ask for the
running config of your member interfaces : ) and they should inherit the
same.
If your Po interface and Member interfaces reflect the same configuration
then you do not have to repeat the configuration on both all the way again.
You change it on one and it reflects on the other.
