I think, fallback bridging is your solution.
Creating BVI using IRB works if the interfaces belongimg to different L2 domains are on the same router. In the following exaple, 2 LAN segments running IP need to be bridged together:
Router
int f0/0.63
bride-group 1
!
interface f0/0.36
bridge-group 1
!
interface bvi1
ip add 136.1.136.1 255.255.255.0
!
bridge irb
bridge 1 protocol ieee
bridge 1 route ip
