Hi, Joshua.
I don't think you will lose the IOS
unless you do "copy tftp flash:startup-config" and press enter 3 times.
So, the easist way that I can think of is
(1) erase st
(2) reload
(3) copy tftp startup
(4) reload
or
(1) erase st
(2) reload
(3) copy tftp run
(4) no shut any interfaces that you want to use.
