I have asked the proctor that question many times and the answer is always:
If it is not specifically prohibited it is allowed.
Your best bet is to ask the proctor. There will be situations where you will
need to perform a task that was not being asked to make everything work,
others will not require "unasked" tasks. The trick is to know when you need
the extra enabled.
Always ask the proctor.
