1. Probably Cisco is the biggests. Competition would include Avaya and 3com.
2. Call Manager 5 is very SIP oriented.
3. Call Manager 5 is on linux. Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). It will not
have as many features as the M$ version. Mainly SIP functionality. Call
Manager 5 Beta was actually downloadable on ciscos website for a few months
until they sent an email out to everyone that downloaded it, saying that it
was a mistake and should of never been released to the public and please
destroy any copies of it.
4. With my experience, being a VoIP consultant, H323 is the most stable.
H323 relies on the router to do most of the work. MGCP relies on the call
manager to do most of the work. I havent worked with SIP much. SIP is very
similar to HTTP protocol. I know Vonage(VoIP Service Provider) uses SIP. I
have Vonage at my house which I have never had any problems with. I know
Vonage has over 1 million customers running on a SIP environment and it
seems stable, but I have never seen the actual internal of their network.
Google actually just bought Vonage.
5. Hope this answers your questions.
