Hello KSGoh,
EMI has support for routing protocols OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS & BGP - whereas the
SMI only supports RIP & Static routes. The EMI image also supports
Multicast routing, the SMI only support IGMP snooping so requires an
external router to forward multicast.
I once had a couple of 2950 that came with SMI Image and I tried to upgrade
it to a EMI Image (for testing purposes), and I remember to received a ASCI
Error, I think it depends on the switch model There are many 2950 model (T,
M ect)
