I use the US Robotics all the time in this type of configuration. You should
set the switches for 1&7 down and everything else up (assuming this is the
Sportster model). Don't use hardware flow control and leave the options of
the port at default (though, flow control will not keep it from connecting at
the start). I usually use the console port. Now, you said that it worked
fine in your office, but not at the remote site. Questions would be, what is
different....is this the same router, are the phone cables plugged into the
correct ports (if someone else did this, then don't assume they plugged it
into the correct ports (phone vs. line). Also, is the cable between the modem
and the router the same? check the pinning. Hope this helps give you some
ideas to look into.

Subject: dial up to a router AUX port
I have a 1721 router and a US Robatics modem. I configured the router
AUX
port and tried to dial to it in my office. It worked fine. I then ship
it to
a remote location but I was not able to connect. I heard modem sound
when I
dialed but Hyperterminal gave an error "No Carrier". The following is
the
router AUX configuration. Any advice? Yoshi
line aux 0
modem InOut
modem autoconfigure discovery
transport input all
stopbits 1
speed 115200
flowcontrol hardware
