As a requirement of 5.20 and 5.21, authentication is required for the
routing updates and also "ensure that no unauthorized devices can
receive updates sent out on VLAN162" Using the neighbor statements as
shown in the solution, the routing updates will now be unicast ensuring
that no other devices running RIP can see the updates. Without the
passive-interface default command, updates are still sent as multicast +
unicast. With passive-interface default, only unicasts are sent. Do a
debug ip rip and you will see the updates.
