hi jack,

congratulations!!!

i am in a similar situation as i have only 2500s on my lab (7 of them). if you
don't mind i would like to ask you, how much time did you spent renting racktime
to practice lab scenarios that are not applicable to your lab set-up? did you
have 3550 switches? i just think that they are really pricy and have been
confused if i really need them on my lab or just rent racktime for it.

thanks!

ridney

) Hi there,

) I think I can simulate almost 80% of the labs from workbooks. The parts I
) couldn't tried were:

) - Catalyst (second hand 2x3550 cost around US$2500 I think)
) - ISDN (I didn't bought any ISDN simulator but I think it should be ok if
) you are heading for CCIE in coming year)
) - You can't create sub-interface with different vlan tag on 2500 ethernet
) interface
) - ATM (I guess many of us can't have the luck to have that in home lab)

) The fact is the cost to buy a bunch of used 2500s is really attractive when
) you can use them to get you familar to different routing protocol, many IOS
) features, multicast and of coz, physical network setup, etc.

) I think it's not appropriate to say which product I have used to pass the
) lab exam.
) But instead, you should consider how much you can spend on training material
) then pick the right one. I am pretty confident to say that the training
) material packages from different vendors are all very mature and
) informative. You always can learn new knowledge from them not only just for
) the exam. but also for real life networking problem. So use your money
) wisely is the most important thing.

) Cheers~
) Jacky
