FRF.9 payload compression...in Frame-relay inside of GRE tunnel

 My company is in process of changing VPN service from frame-relay inside of
GRE( please don't ask me why it is used) to MPLS.
And I had some discussion with my colleague about compression becasue the
current link(frame-relay inside of GRE) is very slow link.
I was told that FRF.9 stac ( FR payload compression) is not working in
frame-relay link inside of GRE tunnel(L2 tunnel).
 I am just curious if this was a bug for old ios and now it has been
fixed...
( Oh I admit I am a little lazy to lab this out...)
