Re: OT 6500 CatOS requirements

OSM's don't work in Hybrid Mode - they only work in IOS. I have a CSM,
FWSM, and NAM's running on CatOS currently.

I've not seen a pricing difference for Service Modules depending on the
underlying L2 Code.

I would assume you could "upgrade" to IOS at any time - as long as you
kept the same features for the IOS image. If you have an enterprise
license for the MSFC .... you could go enterprise native IOS. Verify
with your Sales rep on that one though.

Thanks James. I appreciate your response.

But, let me just confirm something very important with you -

No matter what, I can implement any feature and any module (FWSM, CSM, NAM,
etc) using either CatOS or IOS and there's no difference in cost, right?

Also, do you know if there's a cost if one changes their mind - for example,
the 6500 is purchased with CatOS and later on it's decided to use IOS? I
assume that as long as the switch is covered by a Smartnet contract, this
wouldn't cost anything but I don't really know.

Lots of L2 stuff .... Stick with CatOS.

Lots of Routing/L3 stuff (OSM Support) .... Go with IOS/Native

Whatever you order it with is what it comes with.

    Hi guys,

Are there any features, modules, or other compelling reasons (cost, for
example) to use the CatOS today on a new "out of the box" 6500 instead of
    IOS?

Also, "out of the box", which OS is the default OS? Or, does that depend

  on

which OS is ordered when purchased?

Lastly, if I have a 6500 running the CatOS and I want to switch it to use
IOS, can someone outline the basics of what's involved or provide a link

  to

    such info?

Thanks in advance for any insight that can be offerred.
