Which encapsulation should be used for PPPOA?

Formerly as I know, the PPPOA configuration should be

int atm 1/0
     pvc 0/201
     encapsulation aal5snap

     protocol ppp virtual-template1

       !

       interface Virtual-template1

              ip add 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

but after browsing the CCO, there's another the encapsulation for it :
aal5ciscoppp

interface virtual-template 2
 encapsulation ppp
 ip unnumbered ethernet 0/0
 ppp authentication chap
!
interface atm 2/0.2 point-to-point
 pvc 0/34
 encapsulation aal5ciscoppp virtual-template 2
 exit

I'd like to ask how to determine which encapsulation should be use for the ATM
interface?
