 I would recommend picking up a copy of the Cisco Press book
"802.11Wireless Site Surveying and Installation" ISBN 1-58705-164-8.
In Ch. 11 pg.
259 there are some handy tables which show the absolute and recommended RX
thresholds at your cell boundaries. For example, for 54Mbps coverage it
lists the absolute minimum RX threshold of -71, recommended minimum RX
threshold of -61, absolute minimum SnR of 25, and recommended SnR of 35. It
lists these recommended values for all of the 802.11a/b/g data rates and
also goes on to cover the recommended values if you are going to be running
voice on the wireless network. I take these tables with me any time I do a
survey as a general guideline to follow. There's also a lot of other good
information about performing surveys in the book. For online information,
there is also some good information in the SRND for wireless at
