Configuring multicast on interface withought an ip address

  If I where to configure multicasting on an interface withought having an
IP address assigned would that interface still process multicast packets ? I
dont think it would and I have tried using the ip igmp static-group command
to verify and I cannot get it to ping a multicast address. Just verifying
wether this is possible.
