Does the discussion on the thread http://www.groupstudy.com/archives/ccielab/200508/msg00544.html answer your question?

Hello People:

I have this question about the diff between this 2..

(config-pmap-c)#shape ?
..
average configure token bucket: CIR (bps) [Bc (bits) [Be (bits)]],
send out Bc only per interval
..
peak configure token bucket: CIR (bps) [Bc (bits) [Be (bits)]],
send out Bc+Be per interval

Ok I think I got the Idea of the Token Buket time ago, but to make sure
I'm not missing something an example of this would be if I put money
every day Tc in a box to rent a couples of DVDs for my weekends.
When weekends arrives I can use this money from the box and rent my DVDs.
But this weekend I must study more 3550 Stuff so Im being honest put
the corresponding money in the box until I had the time to use the
Tokens again to pass bps, regulating the flow) - hope this concept is
Ok.. ahh BTW my box is a Big one so Im not putting the extra Tokens in
a Second Bucket.

So in my point of view, shaping is like softening the peaks using
queues, but I do not get the relation between Average and Peak
or Maybe I have an mental English Translation Problem between Average
and Peak.

Thanks for your replies
Victor.
