Bill,
I would remove the native function you currently have on. Frames in the
native vlan are not tagged and hence when they get sent across the trunk, R6
doesn't know which vlan to forward them on.
Try that.
Regards
Lee.

Yes, I guess that information might be helpful.
I'm ping from R2 (204.12.1.2) on the same ethernet segment to
R6(204.12.1.6) There is also BB3(204.12.1.254) on the same segment which I
can ping to just fine from R2. I can't ping to or from R6 unless I remove
the subinterfaces and put the IP address on the physical interface and just
make the switch port an access port in Vlan 263 (same as R2)

I'm having some problems getting this configuration to work. I can't figure
out why on a debug ip packet detail, when I ping to or from this I get
encapsulation failed. When I delete the subinterfaces and assign the IP
address to the physical interface and put the switchport in vlan 263, it is
successful. After staring at my configuration for an hour , I can't see
anything wrong with it. Can someone verify this?
Switch1:
interface FastEthernet0/6
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 263
switchport mode trunk
R6:
interface Ethernet0/0
no ip address
half-duplex
!
interface Ethernet0/0.6
encapsulation dot1Q 6
ip address 163.1.6.6 255.255.255.0
no cdp enable
!
interface Ethernet0/0.263
encapsulation dot1Q 263 native
ip address 204.12.1.6 255.255.255.0
no cdp enable
Thanks in advance,
Bill
